This was going to be the usual promotion for my writing at other outlets, but Netflix has gone and changed their release dates. Before I start complaining, there are a couple of things that look great. I’m fascinated by the Amanda Knox documentary dropping on Netflix this afternoon, as well as Luke Cage, which stars Mike Colter, who I absolutely loved on The Good Wife. I’m very happy that he got his own show.

Onto more serious matters. Every month I scour press releases from Australia’s streaming services and figure out my picks for the week. It’s a bit more difficult at the start of the month, because Presto’s release schedule is top heavy. They’re dropping 50 films tomorrow. Anyway. Netflix’s press release for October had season 2 of Jane the Virgin dropping on October 17. I checked my email about 15 minutes ago, and it’s already dropped! Not only are they 17 days early, it’s not even the same calendar month! It’s a nice surprise, but I was taken aback. I had planned for this show to be my top pick in two weeks. People who find my Jane the Virgin recaps (which fell off a bit this year) are fans of the show, but I was excited to promote it on a website with a larger audience. I’ll be okay, because this is not actually a problem. I’ll just write about it next week.

All eyes on Ten after last week’s Bachelor finale.

The second season of The Bachelorette Australia premieres tonight, and fans of the franchise will be wary after Richie Strahan chose Alex Nation as his partner last week on The Bachelor. Ever since Megan Marx’s decision to leave the show, Richie appeared to be favouring runner-up Nikki Gogan. During the first cocktail party after Marx’s exit, Richie pulled aside Gogan and whisked her away for what Rachael Gouvignon called ‘a quick pash’. Despite Richie’s penchant for kissing as many contestants as possible, this was a sign to viewers that Nikki was the frontrunner, and the narrative during following episodes confirmed viewers’ opinions that Gogan would win the show. The Bachelor‘s job is to sell the audience a love story, but they sold us the wrong one.

My picks for the week! There are some good things in there. I particularly want to highlight Easy, an eight episode anthology show that’s dropping on Netflix next Thursday. September has been a big month for Netflix Originals, with Narcos premiering at the start of the month, and Luke Cage and the Amanda Knox documentary premiering on the 30th. Easy is something I’ve rarely seen discussed, despite starring some of my favourite actors: Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress and Aya Cash. The trailer was only released in the last 24 hours, so this isn’t one of Netflix’s high priorities, but I’m excited to watch. The second season of Mr Robot wraps up next week, The Circus gets more fascinating the closer we get to the Presidential election, and The Powerpuff Girls’ tribute to the Beatles is one of the cleverest pieces of writing I’ve seen in an animated show. I remember watching it several years ago (upwards of 10) with my parents, and they absolutely loved it. I grew up listening to The Beatles, and I loved the references. Anyway, here’s the trailer for Easy:

Some good things coming up! You will soon be able to watch all of The Good Wife on all Australian streaming services, so I don’t want to hear any excuses. There are season finales of Aquarius and The Last Ship, and the third season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine drops on Netflix on Tuesday. It’s one of the best network comedies out there, and I love the whole cast. I’m looking forward to catching up on that one, probably after I finish Gilmore Girls (I just started season 6). Happy watching!
